Vodafone New Mobile Update

Today I managed to view a lot of the latest handsets and mobiles which will be appearing over the next few months. There were demonstrations from Sony Ericsson and Nokia, but sadly HTC were absent due to illness. This was a shame as it was likely that I would have got to see a new handset from them!

Here is a quick run down of some of the handsets I have looked at today:

Sony Ericsson Elm
- Great value handset ~ £100
- Green Credentials - Less packaging

Sony Ericsson Vivaz
- Great handset for HD video - 720p
- Face detection in video
- Auto-tagging and upload to facebook
- Exclusive colour for Vodafone will be a Red/pinky colour

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10
- This is the daddy - really liked this handset. Would like one of these myself!
- Due out end of March 2010
- Android O/S. Currently v1.6
- Timescape and Mediascape Sony Ericsson software. Timescape has great social media - convergence and utilises and interesting 'infinite content' button. It seems to work quite well.
- 8mp camera, built in MS exchange.

To be honest I am looking for a replacement for my slightly battered HTC magic and would like to stick with an Android mobile, and so far I like the look of the X10!

Expect more about these new handsets once I have digested all of the information I have recieved today and will also grab some high-res images.

TV Out, 3.5 headphone jack, Ovi Store. Has a great playlist DJ features which is kind of similar to Apple's Genius mixes. But this works in a way where you can select your mood on a slider and it tries to pick songs accordingly. Very interesting!

Nokia N900
The Nokia N900 is like a mini computer. It looks like it is great to use as an internet device, espcially with bluetooth peripherals / tv out all setup. The n900 has one of the most impressive browsers I have seen, which is based on Mozilla and looks full featured. This handset can also multi-task amazingly well with its 1GHz processor.



I have a Nokia N900 to test out. I will write up a detailed review once I have played around with it for a few days!

The latest netbook offering from Vodafone is the functional and light-weight Samsung N130, a plain but punchy workhorse which replaces the NC10. Although it may not boast the streamlined build or pacy finesse of the netbook thoroughbred, the N310, it does offer an incomparable battery life of up to six hours and astounding usability for its diminutive size.

The N130 is usually available in matt black or white, with the future promise of trendier colours, but Vodafone currently only offer black. The Samsung N130 is powered by the Intel Atom 1.6 GHz N270 processor, which proves energy efficient for longer battery life. Available storage is adequate, with a 160GB hard drive and a 3-in-1 card reader as part of the deal.

iPhone v N900 - How does Nokia's latest model compare to the market-leading iPhone?

Comparing the Nokia N900 and iPhone 3GS is a clash of giants. Both handsets are high end and expensive. The iPhone 3GS is twice as fast as the 3G, allowing you to launch applications, browse websites, take photos and open attachments at super quick speeds. It has a 3-megapixel camera with auto-focus and tap-top-focus, plus you can take and edit videos, but the N900 has a 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and a Carl Zeiss lens. It is clear that when it comes to mobile photography, the Nokia N900 is the winner.

Nokia N900 v iPhone is a tougher choice when it comes to media. The iPhone lets you copy, cut and paste pictures and text from the web and between applications, and the spotlight search lets you search your emails, notes, calendar, contacts and iPod, plus it has a voice memo feature for audio recordings. The Nokia N900 has a 600 MHz processor and as much as 1GB of app memory, an operating system based on Linux, and 3D graphics. When it comes to software features. The N900 doesn?t have iPhone?s Voice Control feature, which allows you to dial a number, call a contact or play a tune with a voice command. While they both have inbuilt GPS, I think it depends on which software you buy to use for the best sat-nav operation in a car. The iPhone 3GS is available with 16GB or 32GB of memory, whilst the N900?s has 32GB of internal storage memory is expandable to 48GB with a MicroSD card. The Nokia N900 is cheaper and has more storage space as standard. The iPhone has a wide-screen iPod, and you can download thousands of applications from the App shop. I think if you are going to use it as an iPod with iTunes and use the apps then the iPhone should be the winner, but the Nokia still has all the main features you need, maybe without the sometimes gimmicky apps. If you are going to be typing lots of emails or word processing then the slide out keyboard on the N900 will make it much easier.

So overall: iPhone v N900, the iPhone has more user-friendly features, while the N900 has massive memory and a better camera. The N900 is touted as a mobile computer, and certainly has the power to prove it, while the iPhone 3GS is more geared towards fun features and ease of use. They are both great mobile phones, it all depends on what you want from a mobile!

Apple iPhone 3GS vs. Google Nexus One Phone - Has the iPhone Met It's Match>?

Details of Google's new Nexus One smart phone are now surfacing, and it has several extra features and advantages that iPhone doesn't. For starters, when it comes to Nexus v iPhone, Nexus has 512MB RAM, and you can add as much as 32 GB of Micro SD memory as well. The Nexus One has the Android mobile technology platform 2.0 operating system, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, mechanical auto-focus and 2X digital zoom, a 3.7-inch screen plus a trackball and soft-keys.



Nexus One weighs just 130 grams and is more compact, and users can tag their pictures with GPS co-ordinates. It also has HSUPA of 2Mbps up to 5.76Mbps, HSDPA of 7.2Mbps, and A2DP stereo Bluetooth 2.1 plus EDR, as well as cell tower and WiFi positioning. A few of the extra features include physical power and volume keys, haptic feedback, a Teflon-coated back cover, dock pins, stereo headset, earpiece, two microphones, a SIM card, light sensor, proximity sensor, a tricolour charging and notification indicator LED and 512 MB of flash memory.

iPhone 3GS has a 3-megapixel camera with tap to auto-focus, no flash, geo-tagging and a 3.5-inch screen with 16M colours. It weighs 135 grams, has 16GB or 32 GB of flash memory, 256MB of RAM, no Micro SD card, A2DP Bluetooth 2.1, HSDPA of 7.2Mbps, and the superb iPhone 3.0 operating system.

In the Nexus v iPhone stakes, it's clear that the list of features the Nexus has and the iPhone doesn't is a long one. Nexus One also has a host of audio decoders that iPhone 3GS lacks, and it supports numerous image formats, including JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP and H.263. In fact, in the Nexus vs. iPhone battle of the phones, iPhone only has a single feature on paper that's superior to Nexus, which is the standard size of the memory. Of course the iPhone has the legendary design and support of iTunes and the other multitude of apps which even Android cannot compete with at present.

It is great that this competition exists in the marketplace as I see the Nexus with it's Android O/S as the only true competitor at the moment. 2010 is set to be an interesting year for the trendy touchscreen smartphone market!

My opinion: The Nexus One has certainly raised the profile of the impressive Android operating system which has deserved a better handset for some time.

It still has some way to go before it topples the iPhone 3GS Empire, especially in the 'I WANT ONE!' stakes. Now the mobile phone network is no longer such an important factor in iPhone ownership it should increase Apple's market share, which will worry other large mobile phone manufacturers. Google certainly has the necessary muscle to make a success of it's entry into the mobile market, so it will be interesting to see what it does next.

Google Nexus One Phone Now Available

The Google Nexus One phone is available in the US (You can ship to the UK). It will only be sold online through the Google store, and promises to match up to the best 2009 smart phones such as Blackberry, Nokia and LG, and in 2010 the competition is going to heat up even more. The super-phone, as Google has dubbed it, has a wide variety of great features that are bound to win you over, such as its lack of user locking. Instead, Google has joined forces with chief operators such as Vodafone.

It?s the first handset to use the Android Mobile Technology Platform 2.1 operating system, and is powered by a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Google Phone on Vodafone features noise reduction to remove background interference during calls, and HTC Corp partnered with Google to design the exceptional touch-screen. With the Nexus Vodafone, you don?t have to type emails or texts, you can simply dictate them, and the phone's voice-enable keyboard will write it for you.

The Google Nexus One phone has a Teflon-coated back that repels dirt and dust, and weighs in at a mere 130 grams with battery included. The 3.7-inch touch-screen has 800x480-pixel resolution, and the 5-megapixel camera comes with auto focus, LED flash and 2X zoom. The Nexus Vodafone can capture video at 20 frames per second or more at 720x480 pixels, depending on conditions, and also features 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 2Mbps HSUPA, 2.1 + EDR Bluetooth and WiFi.

Google Phone on Vodafone is set to launch in early spring, and, since Vodafone's UK network is specifically designed to support smart phones, it's the perfect network for Nexus One users, ensuring that they get the most out of their mobiles. Google and Vodafone will provide customer support, Google assisting with technical problems and queries, while Vodafone deals with billing, tariffs, network queries and services.
